Stages of PLE, v5

Stages of Personalized Learning Environments (PLE), version 5

The Stages of Personalized Learning Environments (PLE), version 5 was updated while finishing our book, How to Personalize Learning that was published in the Fall 2016.  Based on the feedback from educators that have been using the Stages of PLE, we included in how a learner uses voice and choice when they create their Learner Profile (LP) and Personal Learning Plan (PLP). We changed some of the terminology in our book and wanted to align the chart with the information in the book. This version is also available on the inside of the back cover of our new book.

The back story to the Stages of Personalized Learning Environments (PLE) comes from the conversations Barbara and I had with educators early on in 2011-12 where they were asked to create learner-centered environments with no idea on how they would do that. Thinking like practitioners, we created the first Stages of PLE to help educators understand that there is a process to move from a traditional classroom to Stage One where it is teacher-centered with learner voice and choice to Stage Two where it is learner-centered to Stage Three where learners are driving their own learning.

The Stages of Personalized Learning Environments, v5 is now available as a poster in a variety of sizes and papers!
